Attend this pilot session if you are thinking about participating in the nine months long System Architecting Masters (Sysam) program that focuses on practical no nonsense system architecting, as well as the essential leadership skills that are vital to exercise this role in technical development environments.

to driving meaningful change within themselves, their teams, and their
organizations.

Objective

The objects for the whole SYSAM program are:

  • Hard skills: Able to apply systems engineering processes using the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook as a reference;
  • Soft skills: Bring people together: challenge, convince, inspire and lead;
  • Realization: The right mindset to achieve great results. Reasoning according the CAFCR framework connects leadership and processes.

Intended for

Those who are thinking about attending the full SYSAM program. The SYSAM program is intented for professionals in a technical development and engineering environment with:

  • at least five years of experience;
  • at least half a year experience in a system architecting or system engineering role or a leading position that requires you to communicate with a team, customers and management;
  • an ambition to bring your leadership skills to a higher level and improving your overall effectivity.

Program

In this one day pilot you will have the ability to have a quick taste of two of the most important items in being a successful Systems Architect: the CAFCR reasoning and technical leadership.
CAFCR was introduced by professor Gerrit Muller in 2004. Based on his experience he concluded that there are two very important viewpoints that make the difference in long lasting success. These viewpoints force us to step out of our traditional inward engineering viewpoints of specification, design and technology. It helps us to make a mind shift towards an outward viewpoint and feel how the customer world works and why it works like that. It is these 5 complementary viewpoints that enable us to really deliver what the customer needs. Which isn’t exactly what the customer asked for.
In this half day session not only the CAFCR theory is introduced but you as a participant will apply it on your day-to-day project.

In the afternoon we will dive into the world of leadership and what the role of architect, as a technical leader, asks from you. What are the typical leadership challenges that you face a growing leader? F.e. how to be convincing although you are not sure? Or how to push back a difficult senior stakeholder who want to go a different direction? How you deal with this will  be highly influenced by who you are. How is your personality build up? What are your personal ‘hot buttons’ and how can you best response when your ‘hot buttons’ are pushed? In this afternoon we explain how personality is build up and you will map out your own! The outcome of this afternoon will be a clear path forward and a taste of how you can become the leader you aspire to be.

Methods

The pilot session will be an interactive online meeting.

As for the whole SYSAM program:
Before the start of the training, a supervisor (a manager or colleague that is responsible
for personal growth), participant and trainer discuss learning goals and project case as an
intake.

  • 9 months part-time;
  • 3 classroom courses of 4 days each;
  • Euspen/ PostHBO certification/preparation for INCOSE/ Academic Equivalency;
  • At the end of the training, a supervisor will be invited to join the final presentation.

The theory within the System Architecting Masters program is amongst others based on the CAFCR framework of Gerrit Muller and the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook that provides top-level guidance for good systems engineering practices.
