Settels transfers its shares in High Tech Institute (50%) to Techwatch

Settels Savenije transfers all of its shares in High Tech Institute to Techwatch. The publisher of magazines Bits&Chips and High-Tech Systems now becomes the full owner of the training institute.

Settels and Techwatch interacted with each other as equal shareholders of High Tech Institute for five years. Settels has now decided to focus on its technical activities.

‘Our organisation is currently growing strongly’ says John Settels, director of Settels Savenije, about transferring his shares in High Tech Institute. ‘Together with my management team I have decided to focus on our engineering firm and the expansion of production in new cleanrooms at Strijp-T.’ Settels remains involved with High Tech Institute as a supplier of courses and lecturers in the field of design principles, vacuum technology, leadership, communication and social skills.

‘All content partners are enthusiastic about the new structure’, says René Raaijmakers, director of High Tech Institute. ‘The training institute fits with the mission of Techwatch as supplier of independent information and knowledge.’

SS&F knowledge session: Technical Leadership in Innovation

Our partner ‘Settels Savenije & Friedrich’ specialises in courses and master classes in soft skills and leadership designed for technology professionals. Their understanding of the world of technology, innovation and knowledge of how technology professionals learn, makes their trainings highly practical and effective. This is how they help the biggest high tech companies in the Brainport area to develop their architect communities.

19th October last Settels Savenije & Friedrich organised a free knowledge session at TAQ.

The subject “The role of the architect” was enthusiastically received by the participants. In depth discussions were held on the content, what to do and how to do it as a well-functioning architect in the High Tech industry.

Due to the positive feedback we received, we are planning a new knowledge session in the beginning of next year. If you are interested please do not hesitate to contact: debora.dijkers@sttls.nl

This was also an introduction to our new training Leadership skills for architects and other technical leaders which with start in the spring of 2018.

DSPE Knowledge day Additive Manufacturing September 2017

Would you like to know more about our course ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing’ and are you or is your company a member of the DSPE? Attend DSPE’s knowledge session on the 28th of September at Fontys’ ObjexLab. Check out our lecturers ‘in action’.

Objexlab is the fully equipped 3D printlab. It focuses on the latest developments in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing). This technique offers many new possibilities in comparison with conventional (machining and not machining) production technology.

Most designers and constructors are trained from the traditional production technology, leaving these new possibilities often unexploited.

Knowledge session 28 September 2017
On this DSPE Knowledge day we will look at the typical characteristics and possibilities of 3D printing for machine construction and its influence on the design of machine parts. These include the design and realization of monolithic structures (including setting mechanisms), mass reduction (application of ‘lattices’) and hybrid production technology (combination of conventional production technology with 3D printing).

PROGRAM 28 SEPTEMBER 2017
13.30 Registration and coffee
14.00 Opening by Adrian Rankers, Board Member DSPE. Introduction by Sjef van Gastel, director Innovative Production Technologies, Fontys School of Engineering.

Join us at the Software-Centric Systems Conference

As a sponsor of the Software-Centric Systems Conference we proudly support the leading software engineering conference in Europe. At SC2 professionals and decision makers share best practices in the crucial and strategic discipline of complex software development. Facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences, the conference helps them with the use of technology, to drive innovation and to provide insight in emerging trends. Through an inspiring program of structured and informal networking they can share ideas on how to make the software engineering process more reliable and more efficient, in order to improve the time-to-market and time-to-value.

We can provide you a discount code for your registration. Using our discount code, you will pay € 200 excl. VAT instead of € 350 excl. VAT. To obtain this code, send us an email; training@hightechinstitute.nl.

Expanding our leadership & soft skills portfolio

Our partner ‘Settels Savenije & Friedrich’ is constantly monitoring the needs of its course participants and thinking about ways to help them achieve their personal action plan goals.

We are happy to announce that our leadership and soft skills portfolio will be expanded with two new courses.

How to succesfully perform in the Dutch high tech culture
Learn the soft skills and right mindset you need to to be effective in the Dutch tech culture. A two day practical bootcamp that will give you all the insights, practical soft skills and confidence you need to propeller your career.

Leadership skills for architects and other technical leaders
As a technical leader you will need to steer the technical direction of both the project and company. If you don’t, then who will? This involves convincing stakeholders, influencing without power and personal leadership. All of this you learn in a 5 day training especially designed for architects, head engineers and (technical) project leads who want to improve their leadership.

The complete descriptions and course data will become available in September.

Free introductory sessions: Ultra low power for Internet of Things

Energy consumption becomes more and more an issue. Experience shows that energy consumption can be reduced by several orders of magnitude.

The High Tech Institute and T2Prof cordially invite you to attend one of the introductory sessions on Ultra low power for Internet of Things. MSEE Herman Roebbers (Altran) will explain how you significantly can reduce the energy consumption of your design.

After a short presentation on mechanisms for reducing energy consumption, Herman will demonstrate how to measure and reduce the energy consumption. He will illustrate how the concepts discussed can be applied in concrete situations dependent on available hardware and software.

Finally Herman will indicate which topics are addressed in the 2-day hands-on workshop and what you know and can do having attended the course.

There will also be time for discussion on energy reduction issues raised by you.

More information on the introductory session
Thursday September 28, 17:00 – 18:30 hrs in Nijmegen
Thursday October 5, 17:00 – 18:30 hrs in Eindhoven

If you are interested in attending one of the introductory sessions, please send an e-mail to our office manager Linda van Hoeij, containing your name, company name, phone number and preferred location of the session: training@hightechinstitute.nl

New design patterns-training offered by The High Tech Institute

Design patterns and emergent architecture focuses on the application of design patterns to satisfy non-functional requirements and to obtain a software architecture that can withstand software evolution in an emergent manner.

The basic idea that permeates the course is that non-functional improvements are made by transforming and refactoring a software application using patterns. An important aspect is the shaping of component interfaces in a way that makes integration easier by guaranteeing backwards compatibility with existing client code.

The program offers a healthy mix of theory and exercises. In the exercises the participants must select a pattern to improve an existing design on a particular non-functional aspect. Typically, such aspects are scalability, reuse, extensibility and portability. The last half day of the course addresses various architectural patterns from Buschmann et al. and shows how these architectures can be realized using the design patterns by making stepwise transformations.

The trainers Onno van Roosmalen and Martijn Ceelen have recently updated this training to fit with scrum and other agile processes.

Participant should have insight in object-oriented techniques, have a working knowledge of a common object oriented programming language (C++, Java, C#), have knowledge of syntax and semantics of most-used UML modeling concepts.

The course requires the capability to abstract from details in the source code using UML class diagrams. Regularly example program-fragments will be shown. The course is accompanied with source code in Java as well as the executables related to the case studies.
